congrats

When can you get Bitcoin Core on nostrgit?

soon 🥰😍

I don’t get it. What’s wrong with radicle.xyz? Or running your own gitlab instance… I mean really what horrible thing has msft done in running GitHub? Sure OpenAI used all the code to train data sets… you have to pay for private repos… it’s owned my msft and the main GitHub code isn’t open source….

The reason I ask is we’ve had git-ssb for 6 years and it’s a novelty… as far as I can tell radicle doesn’t get a ton of use… some folks use gitlab and even self hosted gitlab… but it’s all based on git which is itself a local first decentralized protocol.

fWhy is this needed?

Github has sanctioned developers in various countries, see article below. Also  Github has forced renaming of usernames if not politically correct; i know its happened to at least 1 Russian. With Msft controlling github.com, its become political.

"GitHub is subject to U.S. trade law, just like any company that does business in the U.S." - Nat Friedman

According to some comments on jack's bounty github has also rugpulled established repositories on the grounds that their owner had many accounts which is against some policy. But IMO the main focus here is to develop over nostr. Not that GitHub is horrible and needs to be replaced asap.

I get building nostr. That’s also what I’m doing. But where can I read about what GitHub has done and why we need a decentralized alternative?

All I can tell you is decentralised solutions in general are needed because when centralised solutions fail us for any reason (repo too controversial, banned devs, hacks) alternatives have to be there instantly. This means we need to build these tools in advance, meaning right now. Building over nostr in particular adds the benefit of getting rid of walled gardens for good, and tapping into the global network that is forming currently on nostr. It's not so much about what has happened than it is about what cannot be allowed to happen (censorship, failing centralised solutions). When a centralisef solution fails, it fails big.

Let me rephrase that:

It's not about not allowing centralised solutions to fail either (in some cases it's inevitable). It's more about having failsafes and alternatives.

agree. same argument can be made for bitcoin or nostr itself

just because dollar and twitter worked for you so far, doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be an instantly available decentralized alternative that doesn’t discriminate

Also peer:

Only working on nostrgit because nostrgit is the future.

i did ~10h of cal today and ~1hr of nostgit

my brain is fried 🤯
