I’m looking to upgrade my node/personal server setup. Have had umbrel via raspi for a while but it’s really run its course.
Looking into umbrel home and start 9. Pros/cons of each system and thoughts?
Wish list is self-hosting bitcoin and lighting node, nostr relay(s), password manager, and that’s really about it in terms of needs
Start9 over umbrel, pricing/performance, documentation, support are all better.
I wouldn’t host a lightning node without ecc/raid features, but that’s just my personal experience in IT talking, it’s not a hard requirement.
I also sell nodes that come with my time & I pitch #proxmox as the go to tool for self-hosting infrastructure, including non-bitcoin software. Nodes in bio.
I want a Start9 node too, but they are all sold out now, right?

You can just flash a used dell with a 1-2TB SSD and 8-16GB with Start9. You don't have to buy their hardware.
I'm more into wanting to a have a solid understanding of the bitcoin related software so the node in a box solutions are not attractive to me.
I self-host bitcoin core, sparrow, electrum, and etc but my lightning node is hosted on Oracle Cloud using their free-forever offering.
I've put some articles on https://yakihonne.com/ on how to start this journey. I could put some more detailed articles out there, but my sense is most people don't have the skills or desire to take this journey.
