When/If shit hits the fan would you rather:

- have a bunker here on earth

- fly to another planet, set up shop there

Having a bunker here is high time preference behavior, setting up shop on another (colonized) planet seems more sustainable.

The problem is, you'll have to bring your own atmosphere and create a planet sized magnetic field to keep said atmosphere in place...

I would argue that keeping what we have (Earth) in good shape is low time preference, whereas trashing it and moving on to the next planet is high time preference
