I had an old neighbor that had spent most of his military stint in Nevada, as a radio operator. In his last months before he passed away, he went through a spell of telling me about a bunch of the atrocious things he had witnessed there. He was the sweetest man, but vehemently independent almost to the point of completely rejecting society. I always wonder now if those stories are why he lived the way that he did.
