Based on your tastes here, I would say something robust like a Lamy in a leather pen slip.
As for the notepad, Rhodia makes an excellent little "Dotpad". 3.3in by 4.7in. Perfect pocket pad.
I keep a rite in the rain notebook with a leather cover I made in my bag,
but the fountain pen is intriguing. Thanks for the recommendation.

Fountain pens write so nicely, many are built to last, and they're more environmentally friendly (in the real sense, not the political garbage-talk we have now) as they're made to be refilled, not thrown out and replaced.
