I have an NVIDIA card on my machine, and it works well pretty with X11 (heck, I use i3 with Mint for goodness sake, and it's just fine for me).

I think the 550 drivers and above will work with Wayland. I'd have to take a look into it, but it's promising for NVIDIA users.
