I just got a new (refurbished) headless Dell workstation (win10 OS).
I need a monitor to do the initial set up. But I don't have any stand alone monitors... I have an old laptop (Ubuntu OS) and an "all in one" desktop (win10 OS)
Without buying a new monitor, how can I set up the new computer?
I'm open to buying a cheap 7" monitor with a VGA connection if there's no way to get the computer set up. Any recommendations?
Google said to SSH into it, but I don't know the computer name or IP address.... You can get a "USB crash cart" which is built for this exact purpose, but they're quite expensive: https://www.startech.com/en-us/server-management/notecons01
It'd be cheapest to either borrow a monitor from someone, or take the computer to a place that has one you can use. In my part of the world (rural Canada) most public libraries have a lab or makerspace that can be used for such things.
Interesting....at $450, It's way over my budget... I decided to buy a 7inch screen for $35 on Amazon....low profile, inexpensive and may prove to be handy in the future. 🙏🫂
