Sometimes the state of mobile devices really, really gets me down. We let big tech convince us all this stuff had to be different 'cause performance', but now, devices are just as powerful as laptops and yet can't install standard gnu/OSS stuff without nightmares of hoops to jump through and browsers are all closed source etc. What a setback for personal compute.. all for what? So that we can take good photos and scroll photos.. I can't even get my sister to send me a video she took of me cause iPhone vs. Android and she can't figure it out cause 'iphone is so simple just works'. FML.
Not to mention the headache of how much development effort it takes to reach an audience that uses mobile (which is everyone). Feels like an insurmountable task to create 'an app'. Because you need two apps, or >half of the world won't use what you create. PWAs may be the answer but they too have many hurdles to clear because they can't come close to native performance and heavily depend on web servers.
Anyway, thats my rant. How bout you?
