My explanation is, that its really the most prosperous free country on earth and they just want to keep it for themselves, so they created a narrative that its horrible and suppressive and closed.

Then suddenly the filters appear before our eyes and we realize its really the opposite. We, in the west, have been living under suppressive regimes, we're the slaves and the zombies but all this time we we're manipulated to think it was them!!
