I lose all trust for people who lie. Even a lie that's not intended for me. Just seeing it. What blows my mind is that people generally just let it slide.

Straw man arguments and shifting goal posts are just lies. Very close to a lie - perhaps close enough to count as one - is saying obvious truths that are such low bars that everyone agrees. The only reason to say such things is to lead someone in for a "but" and a deception.

Authentic misinterpretations often come with questions and openness to revision. If someone digs in their heels, either they are lying to themselves or to you.

That's true, the digging in seems to be an inflection point. An innocent misunderstanding transforms into a lie at that point.
