FOSS or fully open source software means that you can audit, use and fork the code for ANY reason. Coinkite allows all of this EXCEPT for commercial uses (meaning you can't take their code and then sell it for a profit).

Other than that you can see everything about how the software works, and you can even fork it for personal use if you like.
