I had my own business from 2003-2010. I was used to giving 110%. I went to work elsewhere in 2010 for various reasons. Anyway, I remember my first week blowing through tasks and kicking ass. My boss came to me to congratulate me on a job well done, and told me to slow down, because his boss may start to notice and I should essentially only do enough work to not get fired... I thought he was joking, but I talked to other co-workers and realized that most people worked that way. And then I realized that my half assed work ethic was still light years ahead of other people's half assed work ethic. Shit is odd in corporate America.

So true, corporate world is odd for me. I prefer freelance life

It truly is odd. Definitely a different situation when it's your own business. I was taught growing up to always do your best, give it your all, go above and beyond, etc. Time and again I've seen how taking that approach just means you get taken advantage of. I'm watching my wife go through it right now getting taken advantage of at her current company with zero appreciation or added compensation, and she's about to leave for a different place with a much better work culture because of it. Which means they'll have to hire and train someone new all over again, which will cost them more than just paying her fairly. So dumb. lol
