Men are competitive with each other over women, so usually it comes from a man who was outcompeted in the sexual marketplace and is envious about it. Same is true of women to be honest and I’d say women are generally worse.

I've noticed this competitive behavior less in women. Instead, it seems more common when a woman gets into a relationship with a man who has status or provides well for her, rather than being focused on his looks. Women often envy the security and lifestyle provided by such a partner.
Yes men value beauty and women value money, security, lifestyle etc…
