Hello World.

I'm new to Nostr and this is my first post! I'm a #Bitcoin plebeian, #Linux and technology enthusiast and shoot #USPSA competitively in my leisure time. I enjoy learning about Bitcoin and the technology surrounding Bitcoin and the Lightning Network.

I have a question. When on-boarding friends and family to Bitcoin what topics do you typically cover? Public/private key-pairs, single and multi signature wallets, wallet software, addresses ( send, receive and change ), UTXO management? Do you going into the Lightning network and the differences between it and on-chain transactions? I think at the very least understanding key-pairs and the importance of self-custody is paramount. Perhaps I’m being to technical for an initial on-boarding. Any suggestions on how to Orange-Pill my friends and family?

Welcome. Generally I have them download strike, or if they have cash app just have them buy there. I have them download a mobile wallet, like blue wallet, and have them send some there. Usually I'll tell them to buy a hardware wallet if they intend to purchase a large amount right off. I recommend the bitbox 02 Bitcoin edition since it's easy to use, although maybe I'll start to recommend bitkey? Need to buy one and test it out. I'll try to end with utxo management so they don't end up with stranded sats and then demo lightning payments. From there I tell them to reach out anytime if they have questions.

I use mempool.space for a visual reference as well

Thank you for the suggestion.

Slowly… don’t info dump on them… way too overwhelming for normies…

Thanks for the reply. I was worried it could be potentially overwhelmingly so some folks.

You’re welcome.
