So it doesn't really 'prove' anything at all right, except that 'someone' with said name created a NIP-05 verification at that domain?

You have to own the domain to create a NIP-05 verification on it, so for example if you are sure that fiatjaf.com owner is the real Fiatjaf (it is!) and his account is NIP-05 verified on this domain, you can infer that the nostr #[3] account is legitimate.
This works well for people well known or related to a business.
you need to have access to the domain, so you can enter data (a small json file).
OR you can register at a domain that does this for you. Like I did by registering at getalby.
