Weird shit is afoot around my home. What cameras do y'all recommend and have you used them in conjunction with nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll or your nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct? I'm wanting to avoid the companies cloud and store in my own server.

Please let this be a somewhat simple tech solution

You don't need a server for a small POE (power over ethernet) camera setup.

I was going to use it for storage. I could dump it onto an old external hard drive I have laying around though I guess. I struggle with the tech solutions to things. The last year is really the first I've really started to learn about it so it's all pretty overwhelming and I tend to overcomplicate everything lol

You can get a simple multiplex box with a bunch of POE cameras. You don't need a server to store that data. Some boxes let you network the data/streams so you could access them remotely, but that is more technical if you want to do that without external accounts.

Are those wireless? Home is stucco townhouse and doesn't have soffets or ability to really run wiring through attic

No.

If you want wireless, that's a huge complication in hardware. Running wires would be tedious but can be done, though, it would require poking holes in walls or seeing wires.

Yeah being able to see them makes them easily exploitable though if I'm out of town. I could get extras and have significant overlap to still get visual though

You can see each camera with 4, if you are smart about mounting.

But then you'd also want better visuals on the property around, so, more would be better, for sure.

Could potentially setup hunting/trail cameras in a pinch. Stringing the ethernet is always a challenge to consider depending on where the router is located.

Was looking at trying to build a mesh at my house to help with this. Trail cams would be easily noticed at my house because of the neighborhood and distance to decent concealment areas. I can run one decently and not a bad idea to at least get started

Not sure what you can use with Umbrel or Start9 because themselves are pretty restrictive.

If you have a home lab the community goes with Frigate usually.

Thank you I'll check it out

Best way to avoid bug tech is DIY. Linux box and compatible camera.

That's assuming I know how to use Linux and at the moment I don't have the time to invest in learning it. It's on my list for this year though

They are a bit pricey, but I have been really happy with my Synology Diskstation and Surveillance Station.

Thanks I'll check it out

Cool but well out of my price range
