High speed rail service in America PLEASE i just want to travel around the country in fast trains.
Discussion
Yes please! This would be amazing
it's a great idea but i doubt there is any corporate appetite for this. airlines make too much money, and we can't even maintain our existing infra
No thanks.
Not with the current regulatory BS system. It would turn out very poorly and be easy too expensive.
noooooooooooooo now we’ll never get a high speed rail bc the_beave said he doesn’t want it :(
Pfft. If that's the reason why it never happens, that's pathetic.
I'd love high speed rail, at least coast to coast. The issues with doing that given the current fedgov are near nothing, especially with the economy about to collapse. After the collapse, it could happen.
If a way could be developed to pick up and drop off whole cars “mid-flight” without slowing down the whole train, I see a future for this.
Coast to coast trains that have little accelerator and decelerator stations passing cars to the unstopping train at points along the way.
That would be really cool and utterly terrifying.
Stop trying to make high speed trains happen. They're not going to happen.
maybe not in your lifetime old man.
I’d like to re-allocate my social security deducts into this initiative
Go to Japan! You will love trains there
japan can have them but why are americans such pussies about it
California wasted billions of tax payer dollars and no train
We gave up on rail for cars. Not a great way to go, but... That's the truth of it
everyone knows this. and it was “we” it was ford and gm
People choose the individual route that automobiles offered. Ferd and Gubment Motors just sold stuff that people bought.
lol not at all. gm lobbied the fuck out of the government. who do you think creating the term “jay walking”
Sure. And Ford built up the nazi military truck production lines.
Yes, they had an influence, but, people did spend their money on the vehicles and that just lead to the death of rail expansion.
Because you can fit 20 Japans in America and they have 1/3 of our population. They depend on trains whereas we have very little incentive to spend billions increasing the speed of trains here. Our railways serve industrial needs more than passengers.

AMTRAK spends 2.7 billion a year on wages, salaries and benefits but only 342 million on train operations.
We need a private passenger rail operator if you want american high speed rail to be anything other than a jobs program for union workers
