What are you using and what does the damage looks like? I'm guessing it's mostly about fighting salt?
Yearly maintenance to fight winter wear mostly, yes. Salt is a big one but general wear is good to be mindful of as well. Typically I aim for every six months or so to do a deep clean/maintenance session. Sometimes that's just clean, sometimes it's more.
