Supernote nomad or manta

What's your main use case?

It’s for my wife. I think she needs an android app for reading

Daylight computer screen is the best.

Epaper is has poor latency, and cannot be used in daylight.

DC tech originates in Japan

Does it handle android apps

Yes, android OS

E-paper works fine in daylight, that's literally one of the selling points 🤔

You are right ser. Was thinking standard phone, tablet screens for outdoor use.

There is quite a wide range of e-ink devices now, but the software is often janky. For ebooks there is also the format/store question. Does she buy her books on Amazon? If so, a Kindle Scribe might be a good bet. But it's locked into the Amazon ecosystem. I highly recommend clearly identifying the main use case, then shopping based on that.

Cool. Terrible bezels though 🤣

Fair but if you value your health and understand circadian principles, I think it is an easy trade off.

If it is just for reading, the Kindle Paperwhite is pretty good enough.

It should be very useful to jailbreak it if she reads English mainly.

I want to avoid Amazon products

If it's just for reading, I've owned several Kobo devices and they are great.

IMO, it depends on your OpSec, use case and budget.

Being here you are pro privacy and you are able to buy a high end secure device, hence, the decision is easy:

While primarily a note taking device, it can display PDFs and EPUBs. It runs Linux and has strong privacy features, though it's not dedicated to reading.

It’s not for me. My wife wants to read some manga and I think one of the apps she uses is only on android and other only on App Store. She currently reads on the web but it’s a poor experience according to her.

hmmm, Have you tried installing ReadEra?

I didn't understand, If she using an Android Tablet? If so ReadEra does a very good job

She doesn’t have a tablet, reading from web or Apple App Store app. But wants a tablet and I noticed both of the places she reads from have an android app. Otherwise she had to read from web which I think is not as nice as the apps - or so she tells me.

look what I found:

This should do!

Kindle scribe is pretty good general purpose, reading and notes

I hate Amazon ecosystem
