I mean, this is how Fedora/GNOME (idk about the spins) already behaves in addition to a small warning message confirming you intend to run an executable.
I've not had good success with appimages... Some I click, just sit there and do nothing, or so I believe...
I agree, it's terrible since last Ubuntu update, you need this -no-sandbox shenanigans. Lame that it went into production LTS release and still not fixed.

I love Linux but this kind of shit... it makes me say to myself: "Come on man! it's the bare minimum you should do, start a program with double click".
