Everyone is seeking God albeit in different places. Our souls get tired from the misery of the world. This is what the parable of The Prodigal Son is about. Once we realize the world can't satisfy us, we seek to return to God. Returning to God means uniting our individual consciousness with eternal consciousness or "surrender".
