Tor, VPNs, proxies, mixers, etc. are obfuscation solutions for the problem of asking for too much information.

TAKING not asking. Once you realize that your ISP is really the only reason most of the protocols matter in the first place. How would knowing your IP address matter if your ISP wasn't selling your location information.
You only need TOR and VPNs to hide traffic from ISPs, and identity from endpoints.
