“Unregretted” user minutes means X will engage in maximum censorship, because there is no way to have free and open discourse while also preventing people from seeing and reading things they don’t want to see.

It sounds like they're just swapping one shit algorithm for another, not introducing entirely new censorship.
I think it will result in more censorship, not necessarily new censorship. What determines which posts are “negative”? That can’t be determined by a centralized system on a global scale.
Yep. Musk is philosophically illiterate. He still thinks "freedom" can be commanded into existence by fiat.
This still sounds to me like I want everyone who agrees with me to be happy here

So no more videos or pictures of children getting blown to bits by the US's and EU's proxy wars in the middle east? No more videos from people showing anything that's not suitable for the rainbow coloured world living in wonderland? Kinda sucks.
dividing the world up including the division of our feelings into positive and negative is the road to delusion. feelings are just feelings; they are body sensations that inform us of our own True self.
in pushing them away we push ourselves away. push yourself away and... well that story ends up in disaster (antidepressants is one story).
we have just passed through 40-50 years of pretending it isn't hapening and pushing away some list of things and emotions that some people label as negative...
so now we have #Elon telling people what is good and bad and right and wrong to feel and then codifying it into an algorithm so no one can experience the true range of human emotions.
#hardcorefail ...
💯 It’s a fool’s errand. What’s “negative” to one person is not to the next person. Trying to gauge and filter that centrally only creates censorship. Need to leave it to the individual like on nostr.
Correct for centralized systems.
Opposite is true for decentralized ones.

Also: what's unregretted? And who defines it? And regarding what time frame?
I've had many discussions and encounters that I thought were regrettable at first, and only later I changed my mind or something else happened which—in hindsight—made me appreciate the encounter/discussion.
The idea of minimizing regret seems only achievable by allowing the individuals maximum control to choose what they do and don’t see. It’s impossible for an algorithm decided on by one or a few people to do this for everyone.
as someone that regret the few minutes I spent downloading and trying X, I'm glad to spend my user minutes elsewhere
Not sure… nostr works kind of after the same metric and has no censorship
My main point is that what Elon is suggesting cannot be achieved centrally without extreme censorship. On nostr you cannot prevent people from seeing things they might regret. The choice of what to see and not see is up to the individual, and the tools for individuals to make that choice include switching apps and relays, using web of trust settings, muting people and keywords, using custom algos, etc. It’s not perfect but it works well enough and it leaves choice in the user’s hands. Elon’s solution is to try and decide )centrally for millions of users from various cultures around the world) what is considered positive vs. negative. In short, nostr works because users have choice.
