I have a portable chicken coop that rotates around the farm following the chickens. There is a 50W solar panel mounted to run a light to make sure the chickens have about 15 hours of light year-round to keep egg production up. It wouldn't be practical to run extension cords hundreds or thousands of yards to operate.
