If you want to do something potentially hazardous on your PC (ex. downloading torrents) it's a good idea to do this in a virtual machine.

This way if you get a virus, it's doesn't infect your main PC

Setting up virtual machines is very easy, checkout VirtualBox, anyone can do it

Have you looked into Qubes, where *everything* you do all day long is on a VM by default? They have made it so easy and smooth. Been using it for 2 years, and my only regret is that I didn't start sooner. I don't feel safe using normie Linux anymore. (Not to mention the macOS and Windows spyware systems, obviously.) https://qubes-os.org
