only if we used bittorrent instead of blossom

- integrated support for primary HTTP sources

- decades of development

- already implemented

- battle tested

- webtorrent exists

Discussion

People have been discussing using BitTorrent for a year and a half but it never went anywhere. Why?

doesn’t get grant money

NIH syndrome

and somehow nostr devs miss obvious solutions

Is there a repo for it?

huh

Nvm. I'll go look it up.

How would that work, you would need to seed your avatar? I think that would be very slow and create even more instability.

HTTP sources exist

Also the slowest part is actually discovering peers. You could publish your own as a list (like relay list) and have other peers be a fallback

I have downloaded things from torrents many times but still don't really understand how they work years later despite trying.

So I would say don't attribute to malice what can be explained by me being retarded.

https://webtorrent.io/ if you want a web demo

it can’t connect to normal BT nodes for obvious reasons (TCP not supported) but you can have bridges

You're trying to reason with a troll

BitTorrent 💜

Blossom is dead already.

Nostr devs keep living in the clouds instead of reality

What is wrong with blossom? I like it and I wanted to implement a php (easy to

Install anywhere) or rust servers (for efficiency)

Dtan.xyz could be leveraged could it not?

This is an interesting idea.

I find files on webservers are more reliable and die less soon than torrents which often disappear quite quickly (no peers). But maybe this is a consequence of there not being good backing of those torrents (as you say there is support for primary HTTP sources).

I think someone should put webtorrent into a client (can't be that hard) and experiment with it.

These HTTP sources do not need to be trusted either

So anyone can become one
