Proof of Work - Bitcoin Diploma Course (Cohort 3)

Chapter 3 Part I: The History of Money

Yesterday’s class session was powerful and deeply insightful as we officially began Chapter 3 - The History of Money, led by none other than our passionate Bitcoin Educator, Jetty Nakamoto.

Jetty took us on an educational journey, starting with a detailed introduction to the history of money. He explained the origins of money, emphasizing the barter system, and helped students understand its limitations through the barter game.

From there, he guided us through the evolution of money—how society transitioned from barter trade to the use of metal coins, then to paper currency, and how economic and technological developments shaped what we now know as modern monetary systems.

Jetty also highlighted the problems with early forms of money, discussed the development of coinage, and provided a foundational understanding of the transition from sound to unsound money —an essential concept in understanding why Bitcoin matters today.

The session was highly interactive, filled with engaging questions and shared ideas from our Cohort 3 students, creating a vibrant learning environment.

We extend our deep appreciation to Jetty for the well-delivered and thoughtful presentation. We look forward to Part II of Chapter 3 on Wednesday, where we’ll go deeper into this important topic.
