Meanwhile in 🇨🇭 - it was so close, but it passed. Because e-ID is optional, people can opt-out, so that's what I'm doing.

The difference between this and the previous e-ID referendum in 2021 is that private companies would issue it on behalf of the fed. It was a massive privacy issue for most citizens so it didn't pass.

This time around, the fed will be issuing it exclusively and data will be stored in a decentralised way, meaning PI data will be stored in the phone.

Mind you, most Swiss still trust their government, that it still works for its citizens.

Interesting, Switzerland is the only “True” democracy, where citizens vote on specific laws.

This time they voted narrowly in favour of digital IDs, but only because they are optional 🤔

it would be interesting if it is indeed "optional" or would they implement it as mandatory later down the line. only time will tell

Also yes had a propaganda budget of millions while no had about 500k... Direct democracy is great, but unless everyone is well versed in everything + legal jargon, it pretty much boils down to the narratives.

As part Government owned Swisscom contributed CHF30k to the YES campaign, the total NO campaign budget was CHF 120k and the margin of victory was small, there could be a successful challenge to the vote
