The mystery is whether or not the mint still has the sats.
You can run your own mint. You can also withdraw on receipt.

I just hope everyone unwraps on receipt or doesn't use it at all. If its treated like LN is today, as if it has the exact same value as the sats its meant to represent, Gresham's law could take effect where dishonest mints take advantage of the mystery behind mystery sats.
You don't need to unwrap it if you pull it into your own mint. But you do need to withdraw it from the issuer mint on receipt, whether by unwrapping (to a Lightning wallet) or taking into your own mint (which is technically also just a Lightning wallet at the end of the day).
It's basically not something you want to hodl, but it's very easy to verify that you have the tokens before e.g. completing a sale. It's just better privacy and does not require both transacing parties to be online at the same time. (The mint does, ofc.)
I look at it as on-par with trust required for custodial Lightning wallet. I might keep $100 in there, but anything more goes to my own node or on-chain.

Yes. The cashu protocol enables mint-to-mint transfer via LN, so someone can cash in their tokens at any mint (the receiver's mint will ask the issuer's mint to transfer the tokens automatically).
("Token" has a specific meaning in cashu, it's the format you use to encapsulate sats in an offline data package.)
