I think nostr is too bitcoin focused and this will limit adoption significantly.

People make fun of shitcoin platforms with their dumb terminology but to an outsider, nostr likely sounds all the same.

It’s good that some clients are building for the audience that is here now; but we need more inclusive experiences.

Just my honest 2 sats. I know some people will take this the wrong way and I don’t care.

any specific applications you think would be a good addition to the nostr universe that might appeal to a larger audience?

I'm very interested in FOSS alternatives for popular platforms, for example the ones I commented on the quoted note.

Just that - FOSS alternatives to x y z. Nostr is already awesome and distinct from other socials, not everything needs zaps

I do think the zap culture is a positive thing though. it shifts the incentive forces from ad-revenue and private funding to consumer centric incentives. I feel like that's why it's so talked about and why people get excited about it.

I think it’s a mixed bag depending on the audience, hence my original reply

also, are you sure you are following the right crowd? I was pleasantly surprised by how much people are working on similar concepts to me. projects I was completely unaware. it might just be the case that you haven't seen everything that people are building

Id be surprised to find more than 10 apps I haven’t heard about. Anything out of SEC02 would be new to me

Totally agree. Take flare.pub as a good example of how not to make a front page. People look at this the same way a bitcoiner sees eg farcaster. Most people will land on that page and think 'spam'.

I think it’s a good starting foothold. Network effects need some sort of base to build from. Bitcoiners’ interest in permissionless money translates well to permissionless socials.

Over time, the UX will improve, people will check it out if they run into centralized blockages on other networks, etc.

But I try to put non-Bitcoin content here as much as possible.

agree

Your non bitcoin content is much appreciated and fun to read ☺️ thank you 🙏

And I agree, we did need a starting base and we got a great one.

I'm thinking I'm terms of nostr native apps, that provide functionalities and services. like nostr:npub1kmwdmhuxvafg05dyap3qmy42jpwztrv9p0uvey3a8803ahlwtmnsnhxqk9 , nostr:npub15xd2mmjnh3caykh77djsv73e0zkrp42jp5mwerx8f4m6su40wdvss7t3l3 and so on.

what is something that could make nostr events more meaningful to you, beyond the purely social aspect?

Bitcoiners are early adopters of freedom technology so it would make sense that they're here before everyone else.
