do i happen to have any japanese 🇯🇵 folks following me?

had a discussion about how difficult would it be for a foreigner to fit into the community over there?

i'd imagine it'd be a bit easier when i spoke some proper japanese, but with just english i don't think so

had a Chinese friend who spoke really good Japanese who moved there for work. my understanding is that japanese are very polite on the surface level, but to actually be accepted into the culture is very very difficult.

if you just speak English everyone is going to assume you're just there for fun, just a euro or American playboy

this is correct.

the first few years are just learning to live in Japan. but the longer you live there the more you understand they would feel more comfortable if you just left.

you're never accepted.

I think it would be the similar result if the conditions were reversed. Or, is only the japan special?

Not.japanese but have been many times and have western friends living in JP. Youll definitely need japanese but you will forever be gaijin even with a japanese wife and kids. Its noy loke tje west in that regard. That being said you can still havr loclal friends and will of course be treated well, just forever an outsider.
