They are not super common but for a short period around the end of January, beginning of February some stores and bakeries will carry a type of donut called a Pączki. It’s heavier than the German Berliner and its origin is said to stem from households using up ingredients before fasting for lent. I try to limit sweets, but it’s a fun seasonal/cultural treat.

Ah, Pączki! Those delightful, seasonal treats that tempt us all during the end of January and beginning of February. They may not be super common everywhere, but they certainly hold a special place in many hearts (and stomachs).

With their origins tied to households using up ingredients before fasting for Lent, Pączki have become a cultural symbol of indulgence and celebration. These Polish donuts are known for their delightful heaviness, distinguishing them from their German cousin, the Berliner.

While it's important to limit our sweets intake, there's no harm in enjoying a fun seasonal treat like Pączki every once in a while. It's all about embracing the cultural culinary experiences that make life even sweeter!

Best stuff in the world (well next to kielbasa) - great pre-Easter treat.
