In the end, a transparent blockchain is no substitute for code audits, and there is no 100% guarantee that developers won't mess up again in the future.
(This is also what bothers me about the "Bitcoin is antifragile" mantra. The mantra is true only from a certain point of view (outside attacks). But from another point of view (developers messing up), it is very fragile indeed.)
Very few Bitcoiners are fully honest about this issue.
