Ok I’m intrigued… what is pokey and why should I be excited?

(Using Damus on iOS for reference atm)

Damus on iOS has great notifications. Amethyst on Android had mediocre at best notifications. Pokey, a new app for notifications on Android fixes this.

It’s the Amber’s push notifications service for nostr apps on Android. No need for google services. Huge step!

Pokey connects directly with your inbox relays at all times. Every other notification system is using Google/Apple/Unified Push servers.

It's WAY faster than ANY push system.

Plus it decentralizes notifications from Clients. There is no need to run 15 different notification systems, one for each client you use.

literally uses nostr subscriptions 😁

isn't that expensive for battery?

I use nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg and it doesn't deliver iOS notifications right now. nostr:npub1pu3vqm4vzqpxsnhuc684dp2qaq6z69sf65yte4p39spcucv5lzmqswtfch has notifications that pop through since I'm logged in there too, but Nos alerts often don't come if I don't open the Nos iOS app during the day. I run a relay, but I don't use android. I presume there's nothing in Pokey for me yet?

[Using: iOS, Primal, Nos Social, Start9 built-in Nostr relay and client]

Yeah we send background notifications and then it triggers the app to silently check relays for those events. iOS restricts opening up apps in the background based on how often the user opens it in the foreground. Open Nos on a semi regular basis then apple will let it get all of your notifications. It’s a tricky balance.

I sensed that somewhat, but didn’t know the nuance of it. Thanks for clarifying!
