it's so funny, getting a whole speech spoken at you
to just answer:
ok
it's so funny, getting a whole speech spoken at you
to just answer:
ok
it is gonna get uglier
during school i was the only one who ever made parties at my house for my "cohort" or whatever
at my university, the communications school had the best rep (picture the biggest fish in a vernal pond) hardest to get into. so if you were there, you were kinda treated like you were at yale, socially. like these were the super smart very driven over achievers.
we didnt deserve that reputation btw
anyway, like i had parties and bugged these nerds until they showed up. i had a car up there. and also took some of my peers on photo adventures with me and also for them. and also kept in touch with many on my own steam after school. very consciously putting in effort in a social glue way, very consciously against competitive toxic shit. i just always refused to see shit in terms of: freelancer rat race and my direct competition
maybe shouldve done a union thing
idk im just really into sticking together
all this to say:
someone's value to me is not in their output. everyone in my classes were always invited and bugged into coming. i had no favorites re: hangouts based on performance.
now, there are colleagues of mine whose work i admire. i just like their shit, and/or their approach. their way about things. and there are colleagues of mine where i just didnt feel that way.
and all these long years later,
yes i check in on both
and here is the ugliest part:
all these long years, it is really funny to be like: here we are out here, still sucking ass
like on a fundamental level
how have you been in the industry this long
and still
nice people
not a personality thing
cant make a photo worth a damn
awe inspiring at this point
successful, says so much about what it takes to make it out here
perseverance and hard work dont fail anyone really
that is never wasted time
i do admire that part
and i do mean it when i say: good for them
and sure is this subjective as hell
someone else could say: you are nuts, they are one of my favorite photographers
it goes back to me, to the game of thrones costume designer
many people loved those costumes.
ok.
can sum up neatly perhaps:
"strong opinions about my preferences."
