Having an issue with both Podverse and Fountain (doesn't happen with Podcast Addict).

I tap the option to download an episode (and the episode appears to download) but at some point while listening in an area with poor cellular service, playback just stops.

Not sure if the apps aren't really downloading episodes or if they're just arbitrarily deciding to stream them instead of playing the local copy.

Fountain resumes playback once cell service returns but Podverse throws an error symbol and has to be killed and restarted to resume playback.

I’ve had this issue too. It seems like the apps need to phone home to work. I’ve asked Mitch at Podverse about this and he said PV should switch to offline mode but it never works.

PodcastGuru is my goto for offline listening. It even has a tab for it.

Sometimes I almost wish the Podcasting 2.0 guys could just focus on the podcasting stuff, and somehow leave the V4V boostagram part to the Nostr guys.

As long as I can find the podcaster's Nostr profile later, I can return value. Maybe the problem is these apps are trying to do too much and like a Leatherman multi-tool, ending up not particularly great at any of it.

Elon, hurry it up with that sat-to-cell thing! Don't make me run out to Dollar General looking for an old-school MP3 player.

Man, that brings back memories. Media Transfer Protocol. Windows Media Audio and Apple DRM were the sh*tcoins of the early '00s. iPod 30-pin cables that were inexplicably more dependable than their Lightning replacements.

You kids may not believe this but back in the day, there were even a few MP3 players that used alkaline batteries (those things that go in MeeMaw's comcast remote). You didn't have to worry about dropping a grand or two on a handheld device and getting stiffed out of a wall wart. No pulling an iPod out of a hot glove box and finding it swole up like that hot classmate who spent junior year reminding you that she only dates older guys 😂

I'm growing bullish on PodcastGuru.
