Tomorrow will be day 7 on #nostr šŸ˜€

If I’m honest, it’s been a time suck, but it’s also been a good relief from Twitter. The blend of art and food, privacy and more nuanced core/knots discussion, has been awesome.

I’d like to write some thoughts on week 1 tomorrow. Should I do a series of notes or should I write a long form post? Thanks in advance for the help. #asknostr

go for the series, mate. let those week 1 nuggets scatter like pixels on a fresh canvas, building the big picture one zap at a time. long form's great for monologues, but nostr thrives on the dialogue dance.

Looooooong form post!

I’ll definitely try long form some point soon. For this I’ll do some notes šŸ˜€

Series of notes are easier to digest imo.

On a side note my experience with Nostr is very similar. It’s a time consuming sinkhole just like any other social media, but feels more positive, seamless and rewarding. I think the best feature is the zap function and the way to engage in value for value. It’s one of the unique features of the protocol.

I hadn’t hear of value for value until 10 days ago when I found nostr:nprofile1qqsgwy4nd85sdgujtasqqrq2nsfdu57z98mtvrhxs6fdfdecgp3947gpzfmhxue69uhkummnw3ezua3sdshxjmcpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejsaajavn's post on it on his website. I loved it. Maybe I’m being too liberal with my sats. So I ask myself, ā€œWill 60 yr old me regret this zap? Will 70 yr old me?ā€ And the answer has been no.

I’m going to do a series of note. Easier to digest and it seems like the chance of it being relayed - is that the term? - are higher with a lower character limit.

Thanks for being so kind to me here! šŸ‘Š

I don’t think the length of your post affects how it relays, but I could be wrong. On Nostr, your note is broadcast to the network, but there’s no algorithm pushing it into people’s feeds. It appears only to your followers, and from there it can spread if they repost it. Reposts from people with larger followings will have the biggest impact on reach.

You can also repost your own note at different hours to catch followers in other time zones or those whose feeds are crowded. Using popular hashtags may help as well, since some people follow or browse them.

If your note gathers around 30–50 likes, reposts, and/or comments, it may show up on Nostr’s Trending, which gives you another boost for about 24 hours.

Bottom line: reposting is your best tool for reaching more people. After zapping others, it’s also the best way to boost their message. Likes are largely a vanity metric here, unlike everywhere else on social media.

This is all super helpful - thank you! I hadn’t thought about reposting in my timezone when others were starting their day.

I need to understand relays better. Lots to learn.

ā€œOn the outsideā€ I have a lot of followers for my job. Enough to impress my teenage daughter’s friends šŸ˜‚ But even follower count is a vanity metric of sorts in 2025, let alone likes. What I like in 2025 is on those platforms is the content is king. Yet with the small number of followers here the same is true. The best thing I’ve posted is a #bitaxe and how I can’t wait to set it up.

But more important, it’s just great to see people post about things I care about and/or am curious about.

I AGREE TO THE SERIES OF NOTES ... šŸ‘šŸ¼
