Social media is too social for me.

I'm tired of pretending to care about people. I want to talk about things.

In the golden age of Reddit that was all about this. You follow topics, talk about the most niche interest with the only 10 nerds on earth that care about it as much as you do and never ask for anyone name, age or wherever they are coming from.

Yeah, I was chronically online from 1995 to 2021 and nobody knew what I looked like, who hadn't met me in person or been in a group chat, and nobody cared because we were just discussing our dorky stuff on some obscure board.

And then I joined Twitter.

I'm into some serious long-tail shit, fr. On social media, you have to market yourself, heavily, to find and scrape together those 10 nerds, so it's like...

I should probably post a pic. 🤔

And then everyone fell off their chair, like, LOL fr that u?

yeah, when all the normies showed up on the internet they squeezed us geeks to the margins and did pile-ins and censorship and all that shit, it seriously sucks

that's why i will never go back to another silo, #nostr oder tot

Yeah, can't do that stuff, anymore. Pointless. I need INFORMATION.

The censorship arose because you had everyone and their mother talking about everything under the sun in one feed and everyone trying to market their conversations to find others who want to talk about that thing. So, it was all in-your-face and Granny's feed contained NeoNazis and BDSM aficionados and 🌈whatever and it was like GET THIS OUT OF MY FEED OMG SO GROSS.

So long as Granny was in her Granny feed, she didn't know or care about the other convos.

that and getting paid by politicians to promote their political campaign and filter out opponents positions from the discussion so people don't think there is an alternative

Well, the opponent's position is OMG GROSS, so of course we shouldn't expose the innocent to that horrific sight.

We need to... educate the public.

about how the public doesn't have to agree with everyone else?

this is messed up my lady

this is despotism

Digital public squares are retarded.

I want digital villages connected by roads and telecom lines.

Hahahaha 😂🫂

I like the mix!

Not much to talk about from my side lately, I’ve been thinking about forums sometimes and what it could look like on Nostr. It would be nice to talk about topics like gardening or nature, but not by posting a note into the stream of notes. Rather theme based and well used already.

Yeah, I like the mix you can do with Nostr, where you could do the original post in a board or some other app (like GitWorkshop or Wikifreedia or Highlighter) and scroll through the topic list there, and respond to stuff there, and then go back to your Kind 01 client (Nostrudel or Amethyst or Damus or whatever) and keep responding to the convos you've engaged in elsewhere.

I'm increasingly using Kind 01 clients like an OtherStuff reply aggregator and a mention-feed, so I just doomscroll my own notifications.

That's why I quote-post non-tweet events into my main, to get the replies listed nicely in my Kind 01 client, so that I can carry on 5 different topic-related convos simultaneously in one client.

And it's great because people who follow me wander in over the tweet-feed and people who don't follow me wander in over the app I originally posted in, and everyone combines in my notifications, like a funnel, and everything becomes a topic-hellthread.

Brilliant. 🤌

And, like, you know what I mean. If I want to talk about planting pumpkins, I don't actually care who you are, I just care about if you want to talk about planting pumpkins because I really want to talk about pumpkins.

Or, if I'm traveling to Augsburg, I want to talk with anyone who has a clue about Augsburg. Get me the infos, quick. Where are the best falafel döner?

What I do also do, is that I take more personal interest in an npub I interact with regularly and invite them to SimpleX or check out their social media feed, or arrange a meetup.

So, I socialize, but I do it backward.

First things, then people who I like talking about things with.

I like the idea of forums

Why pretend to care about people then?

And to come full circle on the thought, bella: if you actually didn't care about people, then I suggest you wouldn't have to pretend to care about what those same people would feel/think if they knew you didn't care.

Unless of course you only pretend for the zaps. In which case, keep up the good work lol. 👏

I care about specific persons a lot, but people in general very little.

Ho capito giusto alora, signorina di Bavaria.

All we really had on Nostr was a social media feed (until recently, yay!), so I had to find people to talk with about things in that feed.

Which meant I needed to lurk all over that feed and try to collect people I might want to talk to about X topic, so that I could launch a thread on that topic and get a response.

But this is backward. I should just be going to a place where I can sift through threads about X topic and talk to whomever is there.

And if you find yourself talking to someone about X1 topic over and over and then see them talking in a different forum about X2 topic that you are also interested in, THEN you hit the *follow*.

Yup, agree. That's why GMs are stupid. I already have irl people to say GM, I don't need to do it to internet strangers.

I kind of like GMs, but it's weird to have them in the feed. Usually do that in our SimpleX chat, to show the others that you're available for interaction and see who else is around. They're like pinging the group.

And there's no reposting of those SimpleX GMs and they don't enter the trendlists.

I'm slowly meeting up IRL with my GM frens, so I actually do increasingly care about whether they slept well with their new pillow and had a good morning. 😂
