I would like to install PIA VPN on my new #start9 server running on a raspberry pi. Anyone have any experience or advice about proceeding with accepting “DIRE CONSEQUENCES of doing so”.

I ran to this when I first started:

THIS IS NOT A STANDARD DEBIAN SYSTEM

USING apt COULD CAUSE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE TO YOUR START9 SERVER

PLEASE TURN BACK NOW!!!

No warranties and guarantees under Linux. Just a warning. But maybe there is someone who has installed it under raspberry pi. By the way my web-server runs perfectly under a raspberry pi. Nice device.

Yeah, the issue is that the running #start9 system is stored on a read-only image and the services are container images (again read-only) with the configs projected into them. So the writeable content of the server is designed to be just configs and data.

Meaning if you install executable deb packages via apt, if they install at all they will disappear upon restart.

Start9 has an application porting guide somewhere to explain how to properly package software. I will rummage around for it and report back.
