I really don't know that much about it, but my impression is that the cashu protocol is simpler and more open. Dumb protocols are great. It's ok for ecash to not be federated, because with enough mints the rugpulls just aren't very lucrative or damaging. I have nothing in particular against fedi, just more familiar with cashu.
