it should be obvious but making a trending feed for nostr instantly narrows it into a twitter bullshitfest

it doesn't seem to be obvious to some people but i saw it right at the beginning, and this "circle jerk" appearance of a small set of popular nostr client devs grated on my gears so hard it made me mad, and i've heard other people say the same thing

so, i have a proposal

let's petition, and shame, to add to the weight of this, how nostr onboarding is being impeded because of this centralisation of the feed by these idiots using trending indicators to filter feeds

it should not be default, at least!

this is not twitter, and will never compete with twitter, the whole point of it is that it is so much more than twitter, threads, facebook, instagram, soundcloud, bandcamp, youtube, all rolled into one, just that right now, those marginal use cases are being swamped by this idiotic reinforcement of popularity as a means to more popularity

I wish I could remove posts from the top that I did not want to see - I am just personally flat as hecc about all the coinage in trending and politics - moreso the latter than the former, but both grind my gear.

Will keep an eye on this thread; I am curious to see if we can find a solution.

I, personally, do not have an idea right now - but I will think about it and give it some time to simmer and cook. ^^

i prefer to just do follows and then filter it with WoT... i was a #coracle maxi for a long time but i switched to #nostrudel because it worked better with my relay in development

IMO, the best onboarding flow is instantly having your referral friend's feed set up for you and then you start from there, this is the most natural flow

Okay, then let me just ask silly-ly: What if you have no friends?

None of my friends use nostr (and likely never will - some tried, but they all basically left) so I just went to global and started following people. It was tedious...

Personally, something that has been _bothering_ me is: Profiles, kind 0, can have tags applied. What if, during onboarding, we ask someone about their interests and they get suggestions based on the selected interests (= hashtags) that are found in people's profiles?

Virtually no client uses this feature and it baffles me. o.o

I just would like a setting option to hide it. If they want their cool kid circle jerk list, I could give a fuck, but the option to hide would be nice.

yea I hear that shit. Coincidentally, the majority in the list I see are people I either intentionally dont follow, I have blocked, or have muted.
