Are you familiar with the Lean Mass Hyper Responder? I think I may be one, which makes me suspect keto might not be right for me (mostly because it seems unclear whether LMHR is a good or bad thing - though it seems clear we're out there).

I thought I'd try keto to see what it felt like, but I have no body fat to lose. My LDL levels skyrocketed! Upon doing advanced NMR testing I have good large/small particle size ratio (and my HDL:TG is great), but the extremely high LDL count was still a little unsettling.

I've since shifted over to something more like paleo+dairy, but I'm still keto-curious. The LDLs-to-the-moon scared me off a bit since I don't have benefits of weight loss or diabetes combating to offset this fact

what exactly are you trying to achieve ?

or do you just want to try the latest fad because you want to be one of the cool kids ?

I was interested in seeing if I got mental or physical performance benefits from keto. I work as a software developer and I've noticed over my career that I have periods of greater and lesser mental clarity, so I was hoping to skew more towards the former on average.

Also wanted to see how my running performance changed on fat adaptation.

Sure, the "fadiness" of it is how it caught my eye originally. Then I became curious how it would impact my life.

sharpness generally comes from dissatisfaction and vice versa

if you are very satisfied with food, sex and entertainment you will be in a sort of a stupor

try removing sources of satisfaction ( such as entertainment for example ) and you may discover you have more energy / motivation

the reason some people may feel sharper without carbs is because carbs are a major source of satisfaction. almost like a narcotic.

but it is the TOTAL satisfaction that puts us in a coma - the actual sources are less important and largely interchangeable.

for example i have successfully used orgasm for weight loss because it can replace the same satisfaction we normally seek from food. the reason heroin / fentanyl junkies are thin is because the drugs replace satisfaction most people seek from food and the reason fat people are unhappy is because food is their only source of satisfaction, which is why they over-eat.

i have successfully used dopamine fasting / social media detox to get shit done. getting shit done is a source of satisfaction and if you eliminate all other sources of satisfaction you will have no choice but to make things happen.

i am not saying diet doesn't matter. i am just telling you how to achieve your stated goal of better performance.

if you have no signs of nutrition-related issues like obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, allergies, skin issues etc. - then just eat clean and in moderation.

Interesting concept. Thanks.

Usually at work I have the opposite experience: if I can "lubricate" my workflow (good posture, nice keyboard, proper music, clean desk, obvious first task, etc.) I can quickly enter a high performance mental state. vs when I have a lot of friction and distractions.

But perhaps "dissatisfaction" != "distraction"...

PRO TIP: if you stop trying to be cool you will live longer ...
