I don't know who needs to hear this but General Sherman definitively committed war crimes during his "March to the Sea," campaign during the War between the states that killed and raped civilians while burning entire towns to the ground. Lincoln endorsed these tactics.

The War Between the States (aka the civil war) should have and could have been avoided if not for Lincoln, the great centralizer.

It was not a "moral war" fought to end slavery.
