"Freedom Tech" Signal group just hit 200 members!

Ironic that Trump's Signal blunder, has been increasing popularity in the platform. While it is centralized, SimpleX/Session have less ways to filter spam.

Come join the fun, you can ask questions on Linux, Phones, which privacy services to use, how to use cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin/Monero, what vendors accept it, how to setup a website, and more.

We provide some Linux/crypto tech support in the chat, and other members contribute. So this is a good resource to have at your fingertips to pop questions. I bet you'll join a novice.. but in a few months, you'll be the one answering other people's questions:

Awesome to use Signal not Telegram for group chats, but when I select the link to cipy and move it to my profile with Signal it takes me to a screen that says "This is not a valid Jabber ID".

Jabber ID is for XMPP. You're saying you can't join the XMPP or Signal?

For Signal, if you copy paste the link in the app, or just go to it in a web browser, it should work.

I am aware that Jabber is XMPP, just telling you what I am seeing when I select your Signal link. I cannot copy the link inPrimall.

The same link is at the bottom of our website, if it's easier to copy it from a web browser. https://simplifiedprivacy.com/

Used XMPP link from your site, also didn't work.

When I try OMEMO fingerprint link I get 404 not found.

Try messaging me 1-on-1:

support@simplifiedprivacy.is

OMEMO

Then I can invite you to the group

Group:

The group has no keys, it's an open public room. You add them differently as "Join Group":

simplified-privacy@groups.simplifiedprivacy.is

simplified-privacy@groups.simplifiedprivacy.is works.

This is not what is listed on your site.

oh you're right, the Tor onion is out dated. That's where you saw it?

You have to wonder why that is the case. We're being played and have been for a very long time

Hey Guy, good to see you. You're referring to Signal being a honeypot from the other commenter?

I have come to the conclusion that the powers that shouldn't be subtly promote it, yes. Together with Signal's unwillingness to fix security of metadata or drop the phone number requirement, it seems like a trap. I don't think they can read messages though (yet)

You might be right, I have no disagreement with this premise.

However in this case, we're only using it for a public chat on Linux. And the phone number is to help keep spam at bay.. which you saw from the SimpleX room.

Yeah, I get that and mega chatrooms offer little security anyway. Just a warning to those who want to communicate privately that Signal isn't the solution

I just applied. Would love to join. I have a lot of experience in ghost level privacy

sure welcome, looking forward to hearing your thoughts

I love Signal but because of the phone number requirement it is for "real people" only in my threat model. No groups of people I've never met.
