Day 01: Proof of Work — Bitcoin Diploma Course (Cohort 3)

Yesterday marked a powerful and insightful beginning to our 3rd Cohort of the Bitcoin Diploma Course - BitcoinSafariTz. We officially kicked off with Chapter 1: Why Do We Need Money? and Chapter 2: What is Money?, led by none other than Sharon Murugi, Communications Officer at Btrust.

Sharon did an incredible job breaking down the fundamental concepts around money. She dove deep into:

- The definition of money

- The functions of money (medium of exchange, store of value, unit of account)

- The properties of good money (durability, divisibility, portability, uniformity, limited supply, acceptability)

- The evolution and types of money (barter, commodity money, fiat, digital, and now Bitcoin)

The session was not just a lecture — it was an engaging learning space where students from Tanzania, Nigeria, South Africa, and Botswana participated actively. They asked thoughtful questions, shared insights, and contributed to a dynamic discussion that made the class session lively and rich in value.

It was great to witness such energy, curiosity, and dedication from our students right from Day 1. This is what Proof of Work truly means — showing up, learning, and building strong foundations in Bitcoin knowledge.

A big thank you to Sharon Murugi for leading this session with clarity, warmth, and deep insight. Your contribution to the African Bitcoin education journey is appreciated!

We look forward to continuing Chapter 2 (Part II) this coming Wednesday, same time, same energy!

Let’s keep learning, stacking knowledge, and spreading Bitcoin awareness across Africa!
