A couple of people have linked satdress but I have no idea what it is, can you explain? The only description is federated ln address server which doesn't make sense to me

Just forget about the federated part. It’s confusing af.
Basically it’s a service that will connect to your LN node somehow (lnd REST etc) and request an invoice.
I guess it’s federated like mastodon is federated (as opposed to how fedimint is federated). interoperable between servers but you still just trust one server.
