⚡️📱🎧 NEWS - AirPods will soon enable live translation of conversations with iOS 19. If someone speaks to you in Italian, you'll be able to hear the English translation in your headphones. The update is expected to roll out at the end of the year.

For those interested non-Apple products, Timekettle headphones also do real-time translation (and are currently available). I don't use them but know world travelers that do and they are supposedly really good. It's not a well-known brand but they are available on Amazon.
Will it do Klingon? Always struggled with their 7 subtly different grunts that mean entirely different things…
I speak French fluently. I grew up speaking English. When I started learning French, living in a French city, I thought it would be cool to learn a new way to experience the world, people, to think differently. It was cool, amazing. BUT, what absolutely blew me away more than anything else was looking back at the English speaking world after 10 years living in French. My native culture, what a messy, brash, loud, arrogant pack of ignorant weirdos. I live back in the English world now and I have retained some understanding of what different can be, the breadth and beauty of it. No translation app can come close to this.
