Looks like Google won't have to sell Android after all. They seem to have agreed to the following provisions (redacted for clarity):
Google must not, explicitly or implicitly, directly or indirectly:
- make any search, ads, online AI product, or on-device AI explicitly or implicitly mandatory on Android Devices;
- reduce, prevent, or otherwise interfere with the distribution of competitors’ search, ads, or AI products on Android Devices;
- degrade the quality, features, functionality, or user experience of competitors’ search, ads, or AI products on Android Devices;
- prevent or discourage manufacturers or other Android partners from working with competitors’ search, ads, or AI products on Android Devices;
- punish or penalize manufacturers or other Android partners (e.g., carriers) that work with competitors’ search, ads, or AI products on Android Devices;
- force or coerce manufacturers or other Android partners (e.g., carriers) to (i) work with Google’s search, ads, or AI products or (ii) give Google’s products and services any better treatment than given to Competitors.
The DoJ should have included the App Store and payment processing products in the list of blocks.
But this is an improvement for sure.
