Interesting that this is a baked in aspect of Reddit. The system rewards smart sounding takes by throwing consensus weight behind them. People get to upvote the contrarian take and feel like they’re smart by extension.
This is extremely useful for identifying what type of bug is eating your rose bushes and not so much for issues where someone can make a lot of money on the wrong answer being accepted as fact
It was also heavily infiltrated by the intelligence state from the get go. Ghislaine Maxwell was the account with the most (or near most) karma IIRC. Going back to the early days of Reddit.

why anyone would defend shitty seed oils is beyond me
Two things.
1. They reflexively think that any health craze is automatically wrong.
2. The US regime has been saying that seed oils are healthy and better than animas fats for 70 years in order to hide inflation and push statins for $billions. So for midwits who are completely demoralized by authoritarianism, seed oil disrespect essentially slays their god, the State. Same for the vaxx, Bitcoin, etc.
