Biden announced he is not running for president on Twitter, a centralized company, via an account for which it is understood he doesn’t control directly.

When thinking about the future, this feels like such archaic technology in the present. This is a world where the SEC account was compromised not that long ago and posted market-moving false information.

If a president has nuclear codes, he arguably should also have a signing key for any important communications.

Noch wach?

Nee, muss doch morgen abend fit sein

I completely agree with you Lyn but it might be a couple more Presidential election cycles before that's in place. Great note you posted yesterday on Nostr!

Look who understands the initial function of the SHA-2 algorithm!

Apt comparison, but most officials need training in this tech before touching it (which of course, they won’t do). A good chunk of my below 35 y/o peers don’t even know what a ā€œsigning keyā€ is

A president holds the nuclear codes, which surely takes a bit of training. Gotta add a Nostr key to that training…

Lol I like the idea of that—make the training a prerequisite for accessing nuclear keys: ā€œNo nukes for you until you finish your Nostr key training!ā€

Or it just proves the president is just a puppet.

It’s *literal* theatre

Utopia, it can never work

Believe it or not he first broke the news on Pinterest, but nobody picked it up.

šŸ’Æ I'm pretty sure the Nuclear Football has more user verification than Twitter, but I wouldn't be surprised if there have been many lapses in security after what we saw w/ Trump's assassination attempt.

The 2fa is on phone and his battery dies..

very true.. ..proprietary platforms require too much trust that can not be fully verified.. ..open source is the only way forward

At this point I’d rather not have Sleepy Pedo Joe anywhere nuke codes

In a similar vein, the idea that people are pasting nsec’s, unfettered access to their digital identity, into multiple clients is going to look archaic.

If it’s not-your-keys not-your-coins, the same holds true for your identity. Everyone needs FROSTR

Wen Frostr? 🄹

Not looking forward to rotating into a new npub that hasn’t been compromised when there are real solutions for putting keys into mobile wallets

You wouldn't need to rotate into a new wallet, just generate Frost shares for your existing npub

More a personal decision than anything. My current npub went all kinds of sketchy places early on and once there is a more universal, generic way to avoid using the need directly I will probably rotate

Nsec*

What is FROSTR?

Agreed - it seems like ā€œforcing blockchain into everythingā€ at first, but you quickly realize the very real use case with how many impersonators there are on social media now adays.

With how often official updates are announced on social media in today, it’s not hard to see how it could be a national security concern.

This is a very good point. Plot twist: Biden didn’t drop out but was hacked.

Yeah, but what if his NSEC got compromised?

You treat the President’s nsec like you treat the nuclear codes. And in the future I think there will be more sophisticated tech for that.

Multisig nostr will be possible with Frostsnap

Well, think about it: most senators, congress men, and politicians are well into their sixties at minimum, many at seventies and eighties.

I think there has not been such a generational difference between general population and politicians ever. A sign of decrepitude and dementia, which is very appropriate to describe the state of the entire nation.

ideally nuclear codes become just as obsolete as centralized media

It's just me or 99% of the people is sleeping on this? or perhaps there's a 10% that have no idea that Nostr exists and would cheerfully join in. The future is bright āš”ļøšŸ«”

oh yeah! i forgot about that time when the sec was hacked and they mis-announced the btc ETF approval

Imaging a future where world leaders have private keys for Nostr communication is wild. We'll see it. We just need to be patient.

Imagining a future where you use the same private key for both nostr and atproto decentralized ecosystems (I already do!)

I see a future where the atprotocol doesn't exist.

But it already does! No take backs now

What year are you from?

Please don't do this, I thought we were above tribalism. We all want the same thing here! A decentralized future for all social media, and the entire internet. We can work towards this together.

wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t even tweet himself. Too risky for his team in his condition.

Literally could have been Elon going:

sudo -POTUS send_tweet

It is still NOT on https://www.whitehouse.gov/ :-) .. at least I couldn't find at a glance ! It should be front and center !

šŸŽÆšŸ™Œ

Well said!!

ā˜ļøThis….this thought changes the way we should look at digital identify on social media/the internet

the nostr is the only place where truth will survive

What an excellent note

Would be cool if he comes back today saying he got hacked and is still standing.

Troll a whole news cycle.

Ten hours later ... GM from Europe.

The Whitehouse has a website! Which they still haven't updated.

I have better and more secure coms than potus?

If he doesn't control the account what makes you think he'd control a signing key?

The same message also went to Threads and Instagram and whatever other ungodly corporate advertising supported surveillance media the office uses though right? Wasn't like a Twitter Exclusive.

and yet you can't leave your engagement bait habits back on twitter

This is the last time a president gives control over his personal social media to his staff.

Twitter is like Miami and NOSTR is like Paititi or El Dorado

I agree with this take but... just as a password could be compromised a nsec can as well. Don't get me wrong, Nostr is much better but it doesn't fix this fully.
